Automated Optokinetic Nystagmus Detection by Electrooculogram

Abstract
Purpose: For the objective visual acuity test using optokinetic nystagmus (OKN), we developed the algorithm which automatically detect OKN pattern from electrooculography (EOG).

Methods: The EOG data acquisition system was designed and made for the computer-based OKN analysis. The automated OKN detection algorithm was developed as a computer program and integrated with the EOG data acquisition system. The whole system was evaluated in three healthy volunteers with normal vision.

Results: The sensitivity of the proposed algorithm and the system was 80.2% and the false positive error was negligible.

Conclusions: The OKN could be objectively recorded and analyzed by the proposed algorithm, and the EOG data acquisition system was acceptable in clinical situation.
